SANTA MARTHA CONVENT – ALBANO, ROME
As per the invitation of Msgr. Antony Chirayath, Rev. Mother Joan CSM realized the needs of the Congregation and sent four sisters to Rome on 26th July 1989. Initially, the pioneer members of our Rome Mission stayed with Charity Sisters. With the help of our present Mother General, Rev. Mother Seby Rose CSM, who was then studying in Rome, played a significant role in bringing us up in the eternal city.
After learning the language, they worked in the Villa Flavia clinic. Then we bought a house at Albano in the year 1992 with the financial help of the Congregation of the Daughters of St. Paul. Again, we started a new house which is named Santa Martha, and then we started staying over in this house.
The prime objective of this house is to stay for our sisters and work in the hospital which belongs to the Sisters of St. Paul. And our sisters are invited to work as nurses and take carers of the aged people. From time to time many retreats and renewal programs are being conducted here to enable the members to remain rooted in CSM charism while living in a foreign land. We celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the house on 21st June 2014.
ST. MICHAEL’S CONVENT - NEWARK, USA
St. Michael’s Convent Newark, America, is constructed by the Archdiocese of Newark for the religious sisters who are working for this Archdiocese. Realizing the need of a sound Christian education at St. Michael’s school, Fr. Louis Caputo SDV, Pastor of ST. Michael’s Church, brought our sisters with the permission of the then Archbishop Theodore Edgar McCariric.
This was the first mission station of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha in America and we started living there at St. Michael’s Convent with two other religious Congregations on 5th May 1998. Sisters play a principal role in moulding the minds of youngsters through teaching in two different schools namely Perpetual Help and St. Michael’s Elementary School.
Our sisters also prepare the students for the Sacraments of initiation in the parish, teach Catechism, give counselling for those who need and provide assistance in the parish activities as well
